Big news!!! The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled today that the collection of "bulk telephony metadata" was ILLEGAL. Circuit Judge Gerard Lynch did not declare the program unconstitutional, barely. In writing for the 3 judge panel, Lynch wrote; "Such expansive development of government repositories of formerly private records would be an unprecedented contraction of the privacy expectations of all Americans,"
The court did not require the collection of data as part of Section 215 of the Patriot Act. However, that section is due to expire on June 1st. It should be noted that the collection of bulk telephony metadata was first exposed by Edward Snowden in 2013. Posted By: Rob Walker Chief Mutant Officer Mutant Capitalist
